Kranti Din :
'Kranti Din' a rally to create awareness amongst people about thedire consequences of global warming to the people was organised on 9th August 2007, from Shaniwar Wada to Ganesh Kala Krida. More than 7000 students, principals and representatives of various colleges affiliated to University of Pune participated in the rally, exhibiting their commitment to enviornmental preservation, under the able leadership of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Pune Dr. Narendra Jadhav. The rally culminated at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, where Dr. Narendra Jadhav gave a presentation on Global Warming.
 

National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune :
Adv. Ms. Vandana Chavan at NDA for a presentation, as the audience of more than 1400 young cadets and 600 staff and other officers listened  eagerly.

 
With the Municipal Corporation :
JNNRUM  a dialogue amongst various stakeholders on issue of Development Plan of the city and the New projects in light of Climate Change.
 
Creating Platform for Dialogue :
Meeting for Discussion with various Stakeholders - ALERT organized a joint discussion which was attended by environmentalists, civic officials and citizens’ groups where voices were raised for a people’s movement against global warming. The programme talked about a comprehensive action plan detailing how climate change can be mitigated at the civic administration, organization and individual level. Presentations on climate change, its impact and possible solutions followed.
 
Earth...My Valentine!
Youth in over 1000 strength thronged Sambhaji Park on 14 February '08,  on the occasion of Valentine's Day, having rallied through the streets of Pune flashing colourful placards that stated 'Earth- My Valentine'. Youth from the Indira Institute, ALERT and youth organizations declared their love for mother Earth in this heart-warming endeavour. Through songs, jingles, street-plays and speeches dedicated to mother Earth, youth celebrated the occasion in a unique style. The program attracted huge public appreciation for its innovative dimension to Valentine's Day. The program was conceived by Prof. Prachi Javadekar of Indira Institute. It was graced by Shri Mohan Dharia, Ms. Tarita Mehendale and Adv. Vandana Chavan, Mr. Anand Agashe, Mr. Sandeep Khardekar and Mr. Ravi Chaoudhari.
 
Dust-Bin Campaign : An initiative of 'Alert' and ‘Youth To Youth’ :
On 9th February 2008, the members of ALERT and Youth To Youth rallied on the roads with placards referring to cleanliness and environmental conservation. One of the major challenges of urbanization and consumerism is that of disposal of solid waste. The answer to unclean roads is personal discipline and awareness on part of each inhabitant of the city. This campaign aimed at making usable dustbins, as common a sight as two-wheelers on the roads of Pune. It aimed to eliminate the need to throw garbage on the roadside. Along with installing makeshift garbage bins along the road, emphasis was be laid on segregation of waste into dry and wet garbage. The volunteers of Uth 2 Uth and ALERT went to shopkeepers, hotel owners, street vendors, and told them to participate in the movement to keep the city clean. This campaign got immense response from the people, as a result of which the shopkeepers, and the vendors have installed containers outside their shops for people to throw waste. This project was implemented on Ferguson college road as a start, a lot more needs to be done in this regard, if the project succeeds, then it could be implemented throughout the city, A team of students is working on the same. We are very optimistic that this project will go on to be a successful model for road cleanliness.
Innovative Campaigns :
ALERT held its Sign Up campaign on 7th November ’07 on the eve of Diwali and on 18th January’ 08 on the occasion of Sankranti. Citizens walked in and gave their palm impressions with organic colours on a cotton banner as a mark of their commitment to express care for mother Earth. ALERT members spread awareness about Global Warming and low-carbon lifestyles. The campaigns were held on FC Road.
 
Eco-Friendly Pune Expo 2008 :
MCCIA Expo '08 was a landmark event wherein for the first time in the history of the State of Maharashtra an event was made carbon neutral. ALERT provided the organizers with a new theme for the annual event based on “Eco-Friendly Initiatives”. The carbon emissions of the entire event were sold and thus the concept of Carbon Offset was realized. ALERT also provided design support for the event including the visual display, logo, theme design etc. The design was extended through eco-friendly merchandise crafted by women's self help groups.
 
Earth hour in Pune : Battigul
Battigul, to mark the Earth Hour was observed in Pune at the city level on 29th March 2008 at the instance of ALERT and Radio Mirchi and was supported by Pune Municipal Corporation. The citizens of Pune switched off the lights and electrical appliances in their homes and workplaces for one complete hour between 8pm to 9pm. Youth to Youth took the initiative to  actively support and propagate the Battigul campaign, and also provided the Design and publicity support.
 
Marking the Environment Day : Cycle rally and Walkathon
(8th June 2008, Shaniwarwada to Sambhaji Park)
A Cycle rally & Walkathon from Shaniwarwada to Sambhaji Park was held on 08 June '08 on the occasion of Environment Day (05 June '08). It was jointly organized by Zensar Technologies and ALERT with the support of Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune Cycle Pratishthan and Youth to Youth.

Hundreds of enthusiastic citizens ranging between 9 months to 80 years of age participated in this rally urging use of cycle for transport and walking distances in order reduce city's carbon emission in the face of Global Warming. IT professionals from Zensar Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, E-Zest and others took part in large numbers. Also among participants were honourable Mayor of Pune Ms. Rajlaxmi Bhosale, Pune's Municipal Commissioner Mr. Pravinsingh Pardeshi, Mr. Ganesh Natarajan, Global CEO, Zensar Technologies. The rally was flagged off by veteran Environment activist Shri Mohan Dharia.
 
Reaching out to Companies :
As a part of its awareness campaign, ALERT has started reaching out to various IT companies of Pune like Zensar, E Zest, Capsilon, HSBC,  to name a few. The campaign has also extended to include manufacturing companies like Exide, DSK Toyota, Forbes Marshall, Knorr Bremse, Cummins, Vanaz, etc.
 
GREEN ‘IT’ :
As an outcome of the awareness program, Zensar, a leading IT company has taken up the initiative of a LOW CARBON ZENSAR in which they have targeted to lower their Carbon Footprint by 30%. Apart from making infrastructural changes a sensitization program for its employees forms the core focus of the campaign. The leaders amongst the employees  called “ECO CHAMPS” generated through these programmes will be instrumental in spreading awareness among the citizens through presentations at schools, colleges, NGO's,  etc. The effort also encapsulates formation of a “ECO CLUB” of representatives from the IT companies and various other industries. The initiative will be supported by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. Through the club industry representatives would be sensitized towards the environment, and a proactive approach towards environmental conservation and sustainable development will be sought. Zensar became the first IT company in the country, where employees were trained as volunteers in order to reach out to school and college students to create awareness about Global Warming and measures to tackle the same. The ‘Eco Champs’ were also responsible for spreading awareness throughout the Zensar campus of Kharadi. Various interactive events like poster making competition on global warming for employees, and for their children on another occasion were also held. Tree plantation was undertaken at the land in Kharadi which was made available by the PMC with the efforts of ALERT, at the hands of several dignitaries from city. Low-carbon inventory was prepared for lifestyle assessment of the employees and associates.
Youth for Earth Care 2008 :
Youth for Earth Care, an environment based Youth Festival was held in Pune in January '08. The event, which received an overwhelming response, showcased the remarkable degree of concern that youth has for their environment. The Youth Fest was a first of its kind event unanimously hosted by the top ranked Educational institutes of Pune including University of Pune, Symbiosis, MIT, Bharati Vidyapeeth, and others. The 12-day long youth fest included various creative competitions like Landscape Painting, Photography, Short-film making, Poster design, Elocution, Street Play, Rangoli.  The theme for every competition was based on climate change.
Art Competitions : University of Pune - Landscape Painting, Poster Painting, Photography, Sculpture under Fine Art and Elocution Compertionn were organized at the University of Pune Campus, with participation of hundreds of students from colleges across Pune city. The Fine Art Competion was inaugurated by Dr. Narendra Jadhav, Hon. Vice Chancellor, University of Pune.

Elocution Competitions : University of Pune - Elocution competition based on Global Warming was hosted by University of Pune with co-ordination of NSS (National Students’ Service). Street Play competition and Organic Rangoli Competition were hosted by Fegusson college. Students from various colleges of Pune and from diverse educational disciplines participated with great enthusiasm, and showcased amazing sensitivity and awareness of Climate Change.

Street Play Competition : Fergusson College - Students of National Defense Academy rendering their high-voltage power packed performance duing the Street Play Competition. Rangoli competition saw the young participants using organic substances like flour, turmeric, red chilli powder, coffee etc.

Green Film Festival : National Film Archives of India - The Green Film Festival was organized by MIT Instititute and ALERT at National Film Archives of India from 19th to 21st January 2008. The event entailed screening of films based on Environment and Energy conservation and succeeded in educating youth about challenges posed by Climate Change.

Former Vice-President, USA, Mr. Al Gore’s Oscar winning documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, the story of Cuba’s citizens’ initiatives to tackle energy crisis ‘The Power of Community’ were among the films screened at the 3 day festival, which also included a slide show of photographs from the North and South Polar regions by an expert.
 
Youth Summit :
The first ever conference of Indian Youth for Climate change action was an ALERT initiative and was hosted by Symbiosis during the 12-day youth festival. Young students took the platform to voice their concerns, opinions and ideas for conservation of environment, sustainable development and related issues. Young participants presented papers and deliberated on ten themes namely Development plan of city in light of impact of climate change,  Sustainable and innovative measures to address climate change,  Water, a natural resource and its management, The challenge of solid waste management, Deteriorating air quality a matter of concern, Legal dimension concerning environment and sustainable development, Human dimension and environmental concerns related to climate change, Traffic and transportation environmental concerns, Energy and related issues,  Governance and public participation.

The Youth Summit was inaugurated by the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner of the city. Students from varying fields and backgrounds participated in the summit. The panel of judges included officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation, Scientists, Experts, Environmental and Social Activists, etc. It was a unique platform for the environmentally conscious youth to share their ideas with the concerned government officials and senior dignitaries. The recommendations from the same were drafted as a Youth Declaration, which was handed over to the Mayor of the city.
Sensational Concluding Evening - A sensational gala evening at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir concluded the 12 Day long Youth Festival. The programme was graced by several luminaries and eminent personalities of Pune at the hands of whom prizes were given out to the young winners. The glittering evening had stellar performances of dance, music and painting dedicated to environment.
